On July 29, 2025, our Tam Dao herping tour provided an exceptional opportunity to observe a diverse array of reptiles and amphibians in their natural habitats. Highlights included the elusive Kelung Cat Snake (Boiga kraepelini) and the striking Rhino Rat Snake (Gonyosoma boulengeri). The standout moment was encountering the Vietnamese Mossy Frog (Theloderma corticale), admired for its remarkable camouflage. Participants also observed the Tai-yong Keelback (Hebius boulengeri), the Chinese kukri snake (Oligodon chinensis), and the Tam Dao Warty Newt (Paramesotriton deloustali), underscoring the rich biodiversity that Tam Dao National Park has to offer.

On June 14, 2025, our herping tour in Tam Dao unveiled a remarkable array of Vietnam’s unique reptiles and amphibians. Among the highlights were the elusive Vietnamese Big-toothed Wolf Snake (Lycodon meridionalis) and the Formosa Wolf Snake (Lycodon ruhstrati), as well as the sleek Many-banded Green Snake (Ptyas multicinctus). We also encountered the enchanting Tam Dao Warty Newt (Paramesotriton deloustali). The true star of the evening was the Vietnamese mossy frog (Theloderma corticale), whose incredible camouflage and moss-like texture made it an unforgettable sight under the spotlight, perfectly embodying the rich biodiversity of Tam Dao.

On June 7, 2025, our herping tour in Tam Dao was a remarkable journey into the region’s diverse amphibian and reptile life. We encountered a rare Calamaria species of snake, admired the swift and elegant Many-banded Green Snake (Ptyas multicinctus), and observed the vibrant Tam Dao Warty Newt (Paramesotriton deloustali) in its natural habitat. The highlight of the night was the Vietnamese mossy frog (Theloderma corticale) and its tadpoles, brilliantly revealed under the spotlight, showcasing their unique camouflage and fascinating lifecycle. This tour truly captured the rich biodiversity that Tam Dao has to offer.
